India to develop Mk-84 style 1,000-kg bombs for Air Force
India
India is working on its own 1,000-kg aerial bombs for the Air Force, aiming to cut down on imports and boost homegrown tech.
This project falls under the Defense Ministry's "Make-II" plan, and they are looking for designs similar to the Mk-84 bomb.
Make-II plan requires 6 prototypes
The plan rolls out in two phases: first up is building six prototypes with at least half of the parts made in India.
After testing and trials, there will be a commercial round where eligible Indian companies can pitch their solutions, even if they team up with foreign partners, as long as the design stays Indian.
The whole process is expected to take about two and a half years.
