India's reservoirs at 47% capacity with south and east weakest
India's big reservoirs are down to just 47% of their total capacity, thanks to weak rainfall this year.
The Central Water Commission says more than one-third of districts have seen less rain since March, and it's hitting southern and eastern regions the hardest.
southern reservoirs are at only 36%, with Telangana especially struggling at just under 29%.
Assam and Bengal aren't far behind, with some of the lowest levels in the east.
Western reservoirs lead, IMD predicts rain
It's not all bad news: western India leads with reservoirs at 56% capacity, and central India isn't far behind at 53%, with Chhattisgarh standing out at a solid 67%.
northern India has also improved compared to last year.
Still, the weather isn't done yet: the India Meteorological Department is predicting heavy rainfall soon, which could change things quickly for everyone.
