India's richest 10% take home most of the income, says new report

India

India's top 10% earners now pocket 58% of the country's total income, while the bottom half gets just 15%.
The richest 1% alone control a massive 40% of all wealth—making the gap between rich and poor hard to ignore.

Inequality isn't just an Indian problem

Globally, the top 1% own more wealth than most people combined—37%, which is over 18 times what the poorest half have.
Women still earn far less than men (just 61% as much per hour if you skip unpaid work), and where you live matters too:
average daily income in North America is about €125, but only €10 in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Can anything fix this?

The report says change is possible: fairer taxes and investing in things like free education, healthcare, and childcare could help close these gaps.
It's a reminder that tackling inequality needs real action—not just talk.
