Jammu and Kashmir hikes electricity tariffs 6.83% from September 1
India
Starting September 1, power bills in Jammu and Kashmir are going up by 6.83%.
The new rates are ₹2.45 per unit for up to 200 units, ₹4.20 for 201-400 units, and ₹4.60 if you use more than that, a jump from the previous tariffs.
NC criticized over AAY-only 200 units
People are upset with the National Conference (NC) government, especially since they'd promised every household 200 free electricity units but only announced for Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) households.
An NC leader, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, is questioning why promises weren't kept, while opposition voices call the price hike "a shock" for families already expecting relief.
