Karnataka BJP launches 5 day padayatra demanding 'Vande Mataram' reversal
Karnataka's BJP is kicking off a statewide protest against the Congress-led government's order to limit Vande Mataram to just two stanzas at official events.
Starting September 15, party workers and members of the public will undertake a five-day padayatra across all 224 assembly constituencies, demanding the rule be scrapped.
State President B.Y. Vijayendra called out Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar for not following the Centre's guideline of singing all six stanzas.
BJP to submit memoranda urging reversal
During their five-day march, BJP teams and locals will meet district officials to hand over memoranda urging a reversal of the order.
Vijayendra pointed out that even Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is in favor of following the Centre's decision to sing all six stanzas.
The state government said its directive applies to State programs, except those attended by the President, Vice-President, Prime Minister or Governor.
