Karnataka imposes yearlong ban on paneer not made from milk
India
Karnataka just put a one-year ban on selling or making paneer that isn't actually made from milk.
The rule, in effect until August 17, 2027, is meant to keep things safe and clear for shoppers, so only real, milk-based paneer will be on shelves.
Karnataka exempts FSSAI-compliant non-dairy products
The ban covers any fake paneer made with vegetable fats or other non-dairy stuff, following food safety laws that say real paneer has to come from milk fat.
But if a non-dairy product meets specific FSSAI standards, or if it's something like processed cheese or frozen dessert, it's not affected by the new rule.
