Kerala couple sentenced to 180 years in jail for rapes

In a shocking case from Kerala, a woman and her partner have each been sentenced to 180 years in prison for repeatedly raping her minor daughter between late 2019 and October 2021.
The court found that the couple forced the child to drink alcohol before the assaults, and the step-father tried to keep her silent by telling her she had surveillance chips implanted.

Court's recommendations for survivor

This is one of Kerala's harshest sentences ever, with both convicted under multiple child protection laws.
Each was fined ₹11.75 lakh, which goes directly to the survivor, and they'll get extra jail time if they don't pay up.
The court also ordered legal authorities to provide more help for the girl as she recovers.
