Kerala's organ trafficking racket: NIA uncovers illegal transplants in Iran, Tajikistan
The NIA has cracked down on a big organ trafficking ring based in Kerala, with links stretching all the way to Iran and Tajikistan.
The case first came to light after Sabith was caught at Kochi airport on May 18, 2024.
After over a year on the run, main accused Madhu Jayakumar was finally arrested last month.
How the racket worked—and what's next
Jayakumar is suspected of arranging illegal organ transplants for 27 patients using 11 donors in Iran, and also sending two people from Odisha to Tajikistan for similar operations.
Authorities say he tried to hide his tracks by funneling profits through a club and converting money into Bitcoin and USDT.
With his custody now extended, investigators are digging deeper into his finances and searching for more people involved or affected by the scheme.
