Kolkata: Jewelry shop owner killed during daylight heist

India

A 66-year-old jewelry shop owner, Shankar Jana, was murdered during a daylight heist at his Baranagar store in Kolkata on Saturday.
Around 3pm five to six masked men entered pretending to be customers, used chili powder to overpower Jana, tied him up, and fatally assaulted him before escaping.

Robbers switched off CCTV cameras

The attackers shut off the shop's CCTV cameras and fled with gold jewelry.
Jana was found tied up and badly injured; he was declared dead at the hospital.
Police say the robbers planned their move when nearby shops were closed after Durga Puja.
Investigators are checking footage from nearby areas and have asked anyone with dashcam or phone videos from 2:30pm-4:00pm to come forward as they search for leads.
