Maharashtra Cabinet increases honorarium for emergency prisoners

India

Maharashtra just announced a big boost for people jailed during the 1975-77 Emergency—monthly pensions are now ₹10,000 or ₹20,000, depending on how long they were imprisoned.
The "Gaurav Yojana" scheme also now supports spouses of those who passed away, recognizing families affected by this turbulent chapter in India's history.

How to apply for benefits

The scheme was first launched by CM Fadnavis, paused in 2020, and brought back in 2022.
Families of deceased detainees can apply for ₹2,500 or ₹5,000 per month based on detention length—just head to your district collectorate with a ₹100 stamp paper to get started.
A committee checks eligibility using state guidelines before any benefits are given out.
