Maharashtra may delete over 6 million voters lacking nationality documents
Big changes are coming to Maharashtra's voter list: more than six million people could be dropped soon, bringing the total number of deletions to more than 25 million.
Most of these names are flagged because they haven't submitted documents from 2004 or earlier to prove their nationality.
This is on top of millions already set for removal due to reasons like moving away, duplicate entries, or death.
Voters must submit documents from 2004
The rules now say anyone born after December 2004 needs to submit their own and their parents' documents from 2004 or before.
If you're older, you'll need proof of your age and nationality too.
Officials expect a lot of people won't have all the required paperwork, so 6.1 million might be off the rolls.
On the bright side, at least three million new young voters are expected to join.
