Maharashtra orders switch from LPG to PNG within 3 months
Maharashtra wants people in areas where PNG infrastructure is available to move from liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders to piped natural gas (PNG) within three months, warning that noncompliance could mean losing LPG access.
But in places like Sion, Mumbai, where PNG pipes aren't even set up yet, people are stuck with unreliable LPG supplies and left out of the new rule.
Locals and businesses lack PNG access
Locals and small businesses are feeling the pinch. One hotel owner shared, There is no question of PNG here; the infrastructure simply doesn't exist. We are completely dependent on commercial cylinders, and now even getting those has become difficult. We are now cooking on coal.
In Lower Parel, too, residents who applied for PNG after redevelopment are still waiting. Infrastructure work is ongoing but slow, making this energy transition a real challenge for many.
