Maoist commander Madvi Hidma, wife killed in encounter

India

Madvi Hidma, a notorious Maoist leader linked to dozens of deadly attacks on security forces, was killed along with his wife and four others in a four-hour gunfight with security forces in the Maredumilli forest in Alluri Sitarama Raju district, Andhra Pradesh, near the Chhattisgarh border.
Authorities had offered up to ₹1 crore for information on him because of his long history of violence against police and paramilitary teams.

How the operation unfolded—and why it matters

Hidma was known for masterminding at least 26 major attacks, including the 2010 Dantewada ambush that left 76 CRPF personnel dead.
He managed to dodge arrest for years by avoiding phones and constantly moving camps deep in the forest.
This time, after tracking his movements for 34 hours using local informants, special forces closed in and ended his run—dealing a big blow to Maoist operations across Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh.
