Odisha: Class IX student killed by classmates after hostel argument
Shiba Munda, a 14-year-old tribal student at Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) in Bhubaneswar, was allegedly strangled to death by his classmates on the night of December 11 following a dispute in the hostel washroom, reportedly over a bucket or spilled dal.
While the school initially claimed he slipped or collapsed from illness, a post-mortem confirmed he died from homicidal violence.
Investigation, cover-up claims, and calls for justice
When Siba's father arrived at the hospital after being told his son was unwell, he found Siba's body with marks on his neck—and no medical records or police report.
Police have now detained three minor students and eight KISS staff members for negligence and trying to cover up the murder.
The case has sparked outrage over student safety, with Siba's family appealing to Odisha's Chief Minister for justice as an official inquiry continues.
