Pahalgam massacre: Chinese phones used by LeT militants traced

India

NIA investigators found that Chinese smartphones recovered from three Pakistani terrorists were likely used in connection with the Pahalgam massacre, where 25 tourists and one local civilian were killed in a targeted attack on April 22, 2025.
The attackers—linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba—were killed by security forces in July during Operation Mahadev.

How investigators cracked the case

Investigators traced two Xiaomi phones back to Lahore and Karachi with help from the company.
The NIA is also working with NTRO to extract data from a Vivo phone and reviewing satellite phones used for cross-border chats.
The agency's chargesheet names seven accused, including Pakistan-based handlers and two locals who helped hide the attackers.
Witnesses said victims were singled out based on religion before being killed—a chilling reminder of why this case matters.
