Petrol and diesel unchanged in Delhi Mumbai Kolkata Chennai
India
Gasoline and diesel prices in big cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai didn't budge today, even though global oil prices shot up after fresh Middle East tensions.
Brent crude is now at $109 a barrel (up nearly 8%), but retail fuel rates haven't changed, though industrial diesel just got 25% pricier.
Oil companies keep prices despite losses
Here's the catch: oil companies are losing big (about ₹24 per liter on gasoline and an eye-watering ₹105 per liter on diesel) because selling prices are way below what it costs them to buy the fuel.
To help soften the blow for regular folks, companies are keeping pump prices stable for now.
But if you use Indian Oil's premium XP100 gasoline, brace yourself: that one just jumped by ₹11 to ₹160 per liter.
