Prashant Bose dies in custody over alleged Narendra Modi plot
Prashant Bose, a top figure in the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist), passed away in Ranchi on Friday while still in custody.
He'd been behind bars since late 2021, facing serious charges including an alleged plot to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This all ties back to a 2018 police investigation into suspected Maoist plans that echoed the Rajiv Gandhi assassination.
Elgaar Parishad case, NIA arrested Bose
Bose was also named in the Elgaar Parishad event in December 2017, which allegedly sparked violence at Koregaon Bhima the next day.
The Pune city police charged 23 people in the case and the National Investigation Agency took over the case and arrested Bose among others.
He had a long history with the Maoist movement and was named in 47 other criminal cases across Jharkhand.
Sadly, his health got worse during his time in jail, leading to his death.
