S Jaishankar visits Russia August 23-24 to co-lead India-Russia meeting

India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is off to Russia on August 23-24, 2026.

He'll co-lead a major India-Russia meeting focused on boosting trade, tech, science, and cultural ties.

He's also set to meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to chat about global and regional issues.

US threatens tariffs on Russian oil

Jaishankar's trip comes just as the US is threatening steep tariffs for countries buying Russian oil during the war in Ukraine.

India had cut back on Russian oil for a while but ramped it up again after Middle East conflicts.

By July 2026, over half of India's crude imports came from Russia.
