SC says no to new air pollution plea, but lets activist join existing case

India

The Supreme Court just turned down a fresh petition from health coach Luke Coutinho, who wanted urgent action on India's air pollution crisis.
Instead, the court allowed him to withdraw his plea and file an intervention in a pending case filed by environmentalist M.C. Mehta on pollution.

Why should you care?

Air pollution isn't just about smoggy skies—it's causing real harm, like permanent lung damage in millions of Delhi schoolkids.
Coutinho pointed out that the government's big clean-air plan (NCAP) is falling short: only 25 out of 130 cities hit their pollution reduction targets.
He pushed for strict rules and actual penalties for polluters, plus a national task force to get things moving.
With so many people breathing unsafe air every day, this fight is about protecting everyone's right to clean air and good health.
