Southwest monsoon progresses over India
Good news—IMD says the southwest monsoon is about to sweep into Gujarat, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha within a day. West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, and East Uttar Pradesh will see rain in the next three days. This brings some much-needed relief from the relentless heatwave across Northwest India.
Monsoon rains boost farmers and rural economies
Monsoon rain is a lifeline for farmers and rural communities—it kickstarts the kharif crop season and boosts local economies. IMD expects Central and Southern India to get above-normal rainfall this year, though Northeast India might see less than usual. Fishermen are being warned to stay off the Arabian Sea and Gujarat coasts from June 15-20 due to rough weather.
What to expect this weekend?
Expect light to moderate rain with thunderstorms in Gujarat from June 15-17. Heavy showers are also likely in Konkan, Goa, Saurashtra, and Kutch, with light to moderate rain expected in parts of central and eastern India over the weekend. Some areas in Uttarakhand, Haryana, and western UP could see isolated heavy rainfall too—so keep an umbrella handy!
