Tamil Nadu to form special task force for deporting illegal immigrants

India

Tamil Nadu is planning to launch a Special Task Force (STF) to track down and deport illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar. This move is part of a larger national push by the Ministry of Home Affairs to manage undocumented foreigners in India. The STF will team up with local police to make sure the process is thorough and coordinated.

Authorities are also collecting biometric data

The STF aims to speed things up by helping set up detention camps, where people can stay until their paperwork is sorted and they're sent back. Since Operation Sindoor began, 364 illegal immigrants have been caught—mostly in cities like Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Erode, and Chennai, where many work in textiles or construction. Authorities are also collecting biometric data and giving a 30-day window for identity checks before moving forward with deportation. It's all about tightening security while making sure the process stays fair.
