Tehseen Poonawalla claims Delhi Police prevented his Jantar Mantar protest
India
Activist Tehseen Poonawalla claims Delhi Police stopped him at home when he tried to leave home to protest at Jantar Mantar against rising sugar prices and the government's E20 ethanol-blending policy.
He argued these policies mainly benefit powerful families while making life more expensive for regular people.
Poonawalla calls 'sugar scam,' offers juice
Poonawalla, leading his group Team Bharat, called out what he described as a "sugar scam" and said the E20 fuel mix hurts vehicles and hits consumers' wallets.
When police blocked his protest, he offered them sugarcane juice outside his house as a symbolic gesture about rising costs.
He also questioned why his protest was denied, saying no official detention order was given and accusing authorities of shutting down peaceful dissent.
