Telangana man sells newborn son to fund drinking habit
India
In Telangana's Medak district, a man named Mahipal sold his newborn son for ₹1.70 lakh to support his drinking habit.
The sale happened just a week after the baby was born, and Mahipal made the decision without telling his wife, Manjula.
The situation came to light when local Anganwadi workers noticed Manjula had stopped coming for nutrition visits and her house was locked.
Baby reunited with mother
Police quickly stepped in and rescued the baby, reuniting him with Manjula at Sakhi Center.
Menaka, head of the Medak Sakhi Centre, confirmed that Manjula had delivered the baby on February 10.
Meanwhile, Manjula has also accused Mahipal and her in-laws of harassment over work issues.
As of March 11, 2026, police have launched a detailed investigation into the case.
