UP engineer arrested after parents' murder over family tensions

India

A 30-year-old engineer from Jaunpur, Ambesh Kumar, has been arrested for allegedly killing and dismembering his parents.
The incident reportedly followed years of conflict over his interfaith marriage in 2019, which his parents did not accept.
On December 8, Kumar is said to have killed them at home using a grinding stone.

What happened next

After the crime, Kumar tried to hide what happened by asking his sister to file a missing persons report and then went on the run.
Police tracked him down in Jaunpur city, where he confessed to dismembering the bodies and dumping them in the Gomti River.
So far, one body has been found; search teams are still looking for the other along a 15-km stretch of river with boats and divers.
The case highlights how deep family tensions can sometimes turn tragic when it comes to interfaith relationships in India.
