UP voter list: 2.89cr names removed, mostly due to deaths
Uttar Pradesh's latest draft voter list, with data reported as of March 6, 2026, shows a big drop: 2.89 crore names have been removed, bringing the total down to 12.55 crore voters.
Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa explained this is mostly due to deaths, people who moved or couldn't be traced, and duplicate entries.
Importance of cleaning up voter lists
Cleaning up the voter list helps keep elections fair by cutting out fake or outdated entries, especially important in other states that have seen significant revisions, such as Tamil Nadu.
The sharpest drops were in cities like Lucknow and Prayagraj, where lakhs of names disappeared.
If you're eligible to vote in Uttar Pradesh, now's a good time to check your status on eci.gov.in.
The final roll was scheduled for publication on April 10, 2026; check the published roll and follow current procedures to address any issues.
