WHO gives India a shoutout for fighting TB

India

The World Health Organization (WHO) just gave India some well-deserved credit for stepping up its fight against tuberculosis (TB).
Thanks to better detection and fewer deaths, things are moving in the right direction.
But WHO also reminded everyone that there's still work to do if India wants to hit its ambitious "2025 End TB" goals.

Still a long road ahead

Even with this progress, India is still carrying the biggest TB burden in South-East Asia—2.71 million cases, to be exact.
Drug-resistant TB is a growing problem too, with 150,000 new cases estimated in 2024.
WHO says it's time to make TB care part of everyday healthcare and tackle big risk factors like undernutrition and diabetes, which together fuel hundreds of thousands of new cases every year.
