Woman forced to drink, smoke for 'black magic' ritual
A disturbing case from Kerala's Kottayam district has come to light, where a woman was forced by her partner and his family to take part in a so-called black magic ritual.
She was made to drink alcohol and smoke beedis for hours, supposedly to "drive out an evil spirit."
The abuse left her with burn injuries and physical and mental torture, and she eventually lost consciousness.
The incident came to light after her father reported it to the police.
3 people arrested so far
Police have arrested three people so far: the victim's partner Akhil Das, his father Das, and a sorcerer named Shivadas who led the ritual.
The partner's mother—who allegedly brought in the sorcerer—is still missing.
All those arrested are now in judicial custody as police continue their search for the remaining accused.
