Bengaluru: Speeding ambulance runs over 2 after jumping traffic signal

A tragic accident in Bengaluru's Richmond Circle claimed the lives of a couple on Saturday night. The victims, identified as 40-year-old Ismail and his wife Sameen Banu, were riding a Honda Dio scooter when an out-of-control ambulance rammed into them. The incident occurred around 11:00pm when several motorcyclists were waiting at a red traffic signal.

The speeding ambulance crashed into three motorcycles and dragged one for several meters before crashing into a nearby police outpost. Ismail and Sameen died on the spot due to the impact of the collision. Two other riders suffered serious injuries and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

After the accident, bystanders rushed to help and attempted to lift the ambulance. Videos from the scene showed damaged motorcycles, with damage to the police outpost visible. The Wilson Garden Traffic Police arrived at the scene soon after, inspected it thoroughly, and launched an investigation into what caused this tragic accident.

Ambulance driver arrested
The ambulance driver, identified as Ashok, has been arrested in connection with the incident. An FIR has also been registered against him. Locals expressed their anger over the accident by overturning the ambulance in protest. They alleged that this was not an isolated incident and accused drivers of often speeding through with sirens on, even when there is no emergency.
