1,000+ Amazon employees call out CEO over AI risks
Business
More than 1,000 Amazon staffers have signed an open letter to CEO Andy Jassy, saying the company's "warp-speed" push for AI could seriously harm democracy, jobs, and the planet.
The group—Amazon Employees for Climate Justice—points to a $150 billion investment in AI data centers that may rely on energy from coal or gas plants, which clashes with Amazon's climate promises.
What are they asking for?
The employees want all data centers switched to renewable energy and are pushing for worker committees to help decide how AI is used.
They're also calling for a ban on using AI for surveillance or mass deportations.
Signers worry that racing ahead with AI could do more harm than good.
