Air India adds fuel surcharge on all flights
Heads up if you're planning to fly soon: ticket prices are going up, thanks to rising aviation fuel costs made worse by the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
Starting March 12, 2026, Air India Group will add a ₹400 surcharge to domestic flights and bump up fees on international routes, including an extra $10 for trips to West Asia.
Why are prices going up?
Other airlines around the world are also hiking fares or adding surcharges because fuel prices have shot up to $150 to $200 per barrel.
Plus, with flight paths disrupted due to the West Asia conflict, airlines including Qantas and Cathay Pacific have announced price increases, and airlines more broadly are adjusting schedules and networks amid route disruptions.
So if you notice your next flight costing a bit more, now you know why.
