Apple may expand India manufacturing to MacBooks, Ashwini Vaishnaw says
Apple could broaden its manufacturing operations in India beyond iPhones, potentially adding products such as MacBooks and iPads, according to Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
This discussion came as the government launched the Mobile Phone Manufacturing Scheme (MPMS), which aims to transform India into a more comprehensive electronics manufacturing hub.
MPMS aims ₹39L/cr production, ₹15L/cr exports
The MPMS offers bonuses for research and development and rewards companies for using locally made parts.
The government expects the scheme to generate ₹39 lakh crore in mobile production, boost exports by ₹15 lakh crore, and create 60,000 direct jobs over five years.
With 99.2% of mobile phones used domestically manufactured within the country, India's electronics scene is clearly on the rise.
