Central government unions demand MACP overhaul from 8th Pay Commission
Central government employee unions are asking for big changes to the MACP scheme, which affects how their pay and promotions work.
The eighth Pay Commission, led by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, is finishing up its consultations.
After wrapping up talks in Puducherry on September 9, they're heading to Chandigarh from September 16 to 18.
Unions want 5 MACP upgrades
Right now, MACP gives three pay upgrades at 10, 20, and 30 years of service. Unions say this isn't enough to fight career stagnation.
Groups like the Ministerial Staff Association (MSA) want five upgrades at shorter intervals (eight, 15, 22, 28, and 32 years) and for pay bumps to match the pay scale of the next promotional post rather than merely the next pay-matrix level.

These changes aim to boost morale and help employees move forward in their careers.
Final decisions will depend on what the Pay Commission recommends next.
