KhushTech starts mass-producing BIS-certified D2M feature phones in India
KhushTech Korea has started mass-producing its FreeStream D2M feature phones in Navi Mumbai, with the ability to make three million units a year.
These phones stream live TV, videos, audio, and alerts straight from broadcast signals, so you don't need Wi-Fi or mobile data to stay connected.
Phones can be used to broadcast emergency alerts
Aimed at rural users, these D2M phones use the ATSC 3.0 standard to deliver educational content and emergency alerts right over regular TV airwaves.
Developed by KhushTech Korea in collaboration with FreeStream (incubated at IIT Kanpur), Tejas Networks and Sinclair, they are described as the world's first D2M feature phone and India's first BIS-certified D2M feature phone, now positioned for commercialisation.
Upgraded versions of the phone are on the way
KhushTech CEO Eric Shin shared that upgraded versions are on the way: a second-generation with more features and a third-generation powered by AI, both expected by the end of 2026.
The company also plans talks with Andhra Pradesh later this year to help bring these devices to even more people.
