Nuvama Research: India adding 45-50 GW annually next 2 years
India is gearing up to boost its renewable energy game, adding 45-50 gigawatts (GW) of clean power every year for the next two years, according to Nuvama Research.
This big push comes from a strong pipeline: 140 GW of projects are waiting for deals, and another 86 GW already has agreements in place.
It's a clear sign that India's shift toward greener energy is picking up speed.
India renewable tenders exceed 226,000 MW
Since FY23, India has put out tenders for over 226,000 MW of renewables and awarded contracts for more than half of that.
Still, only about 38% of the tendered capacity has secured long-term deals so far.
Electricity demand rose 11.2% year-on-year in July 2026, up 11.2% from last year, with renewables making up about one-fifth of the mix, while thermal power still leads.
Labor shortages in the transmission sector are slowing things down right now, but experts expect these roadblocks to ease in the second half of FY27, keeping India on track for major green growth.
