Paul Weiss chairman resigns over Epstein emails
Brad Karp just resigned as chairman of top law firm Paul Weiss after reports surfaced about his connections with Jeffrey Epstein.
In his words, "Recent reporting has created a distraction and has placed a focus on me that is not in the best interests of the firm."
Scott Barshay is stepping in as the new chairman right away.
Emails show Karp reviewing legal defense for Epstein
Emails from 2019 released by the Department of Justice show Karp reviewing a legal defense for Epstein, calling it "overwhelmingly persuasive" and backing arguments about when victims spoke up.
These details, revealed by DOJ documents, drew scrutiny.
Personal links between Karp and Epstein
Turns out Karp and Epstein had personal links too—Epstein even tried to get Karp into Augusta Golf Club and Karp arranged, through Epstein's assistant, for his son and daughter to attend a small Woody Allen film screening in New York in 2014, with plans for additional screenings in later years.
These close ties only added to the controversy.
Barshay takes over immediately
Karp's exit has shaken up the legal world.
Paul Weiss did not immediately respond to The Post's request for additional comment, but with Barshay taking over immediately, they're clearly trying to move forward fast.
