Peak XV's Shailendra Singh says big companies must fund AI
Venture capital firms are taking a back seat in funding AI startups, says Peak XV Partners managing director Shailendra Singh, mainly because building AI now needs way more cash than before.
At The Economic Times World Leaders Forum, he emphasized that big companies need to pitch in more, since their deep pockets can really drive the next wave of AI innovation.

Singh pointed out examples like HCLTech investing in Sarvam AI and Amazon backing Anthropic to show how corporate money is already making a difference.
He also admitted that India has stepped up its AI push through the IndiaAI Mission, there's still ground to cover compared to global leaders.
To help bridge this gap, Peak XV is investing in U.S.-based startups like Wispr Flow, hoping these global moves will eventually boost Indian founders too.
