Telecom giants are betting big on AI data centers
India's top telecom companies are set to pour over ₹1 lakh crore into building AI-ready data centers and edge infrastructure over the next couple of years.
The goal? Move beyond just network coverage and ramp up digital services like cybersecurity, cloud computing, and AI-powered tools—hoping to boost enterprise revenue from around 15-30% today to as much as 30-40%.
Airtel and Jio take the lead in digital upgrades
Airtel is teaming up with Google for a massive 1 GW AI hub in Visakhapatnam and plans to nearly double its Nxtra data center capacity.
Meanwhile, Jio is working on an even bigger 3 GW data center in Jamnagar as part of its push into the AI space.
With India's big 5G rollout mostly done, these investments signal a major shift toward smarter, more digital-first telecom services.
