Zomato introduces ₹5-₹20 'Pay on delivery' cash fee amid competition
Business
Zomato just rolled out a "Pay on delivery" fee for anyone choosing cash payments, adding ₹5 to ₹20 per order.
This new charge shows up separately on your bill and stacks onto other fees like platform charges and Goods and Services Tax, or GST.
It's Zomato's way of finding fresh ways to earn as rivals like Rapido's Ownly and Flipkart's Eat In step up their game.
Zomato cash fee could earn ₹1.25cr
With millions of orders each day, even a small cash payment fee could bring in serious money, up to ₹1.25 crore daily or ₹456 crore a year if enough people pay with cash.
Meanwhile, Swiggy hasn't added this kind of fee yet, so it'll be interesting to see if they follow suit or stick with their current approach.
