Born on February 3, 1978, in Lebanon, Amal Clooney is a Lebanese-British barrister, philanthropist, and Humanitarian who is known for advocating human rights and press freedom. Her family moved to the UK during the height of the Lebanese civil war. Her mother was a journalist and foreign editor for the newspaper ‘Al-Hayat’ (1946-2020). Clooney received her education from the University of Oxford and New York University School of Law. She has worked as a barrister in the United States of America (USA), United Kingdom (UK), International Court of Justice, and International Criminal Court. She has taught law at Columbia Law School, SOAS Law School, The New School in New York, The Hague Academy of International Law, and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has represented several global personalities including Julian Assange who is the WikiLeaks founder, Yulia Volodymyrivna Tymoshenko, who is the former Prime Minister of Ukraine, journalist Mohamed Fahmy, Nobel Prize winner Nadia Murad, and Mohamed Nasheed, who is the former president of Maldives. Clooney has also advocated the recognition of the Armenian genocide, and for justice to Rohingya Muslims at the International Court of Justice. In 2019, the Amal Clooney Award was launched by Prince Charles. In November 2020, Clooney was conferred with the Gwen Ifill Press Freedom Award. She has also launched the Clooney Foundation for Justice and the Amal Clooney Scholarship. She is married to American actor George Clooney.

Hollywood royalty George and Amal Clooney have pledged $500,000 (about Rs. 3.24 crore) to support a student march demanding gun control reforms.
