Arnold Schwarzenegger won't be back for next 'Terminator,' says James Cameron

Entertainment

James Cameron just confirmed that Arnold Schwarzenegger is officially out of the next Terminator movie.
"I can safely say he won't be [in it]," Cameron told The Hollywood Reporter, surprising fans who've watched Schwarzenegger play the T-800 for decades.

What's changing with 'Terminator?'

Cameron wants to shake things up and give the franchise a fresh spin—he's aiming for a broader take on time travel and artificial intelligence.
He'll start work on the seventh film after finishing Avatar: Fire and Ash, with the challenge of staying ahead of real-world AI developments to keep the story science fiction.

Quick recap: Arnold's 'Terminator' legacy

Schwarzenegger has been the face of Terminator since 1984, showing up in most of the films (except Salvation, which he called "the worst" because he was not in it).
Cameron called his last appearance in Dark Fate a "great finish" for the character—so this really feels like an end of an era.
