Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari wants her films to inspire and connect

Entertainment

Filmmaker Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, speaking at Film Bazaar, shared how she's all about telling real stories that speak to middle-class India.
"I want stories to inspire, aspire... It's also important for the audience to see and imbibe my cinema. It's important to step back and follow what you're good at and do not follow the crowd," she said.
Her debut, Nil Battey Sannata (2015), was part of the work-in-progress lab at Film Bazaar in 2013.

How she made her mark

Tiwari kicked off her career with Nil Battey Sannata, a film about a single mom fighting for her daughter's future. The movie won her the Filmfare Award for Best Debut Director and was even remade in Tamil as Amma Kanakku.
With hits like Bareilly Ki Barfi and Panga, she's built a name for herself by focusing on strong women and relatable social themes.

What's next for Tiwari?

She doesn't stick to one genre—her projects are shaped by their story and budget.
As of [source date], she was working on a love story, a social drama, and a series for a major OTT platform aimed at today's Indian audience.
Inspired by her mom's belief that no dream is too big, Tiwari keeps pushing creative boundaries.
