Karnataka's own OTT platform 'Namma Karnataka' coming in 2026

Entertainment

Karnataka is rolling out its own streaming service, Namma Karnataka, focused on Kannada, Tulu, Kodava, and Byari content.
Announced in 2024 with a ₹5 crore budget set aside for 2025, the state hopes to create a go-to spot for local language films and shows.

What's planned for the platform?

A panel estimates ₹8 crore will cover app development and five years of cloud costs.
They're aiming for sustainability by year five—hoping to hit 25 lakh subscribers at around ₹100/month.
Expect ticketed premieres for new releases and a lineup of movies, web series, and documentaries, with some content produced at Sree Kanteerava Studios.

How does it stack up against other OTTs?

Launching in January 2026 during the Bengaluru International Film Festival, Namma Karnataka will compete with regional players like NammaFlix and Cinebazar—platforms often limited by small catalogs or clunky user experience.
The hope: more choice and better quality for fans of local stories.
