Kerala CM VD Satheesan urges copyright updates to curb piracy
Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan is pushing for updates to copyright laws, hoping to shield the film industry from piracy and new risks brought by AI.
At a seminar on September 11, he pointed out how piracy hurts an industry built on big investments and teamwork.
He also flagged concerns about AI creating deepfakes and fake visuals of prominent personalities online, saying a legal framework that could respond to new technological challenges is needed to tackle these issues.

The ongoing seminar (until September 13), organized by Kerala Judicial Academy and National University of Advanced Legal Studies, dives into topics like piracy, AI, copyrights, and digital platforms.
Kerala High Court Chief Justice Soumen Sen reminded everyone that law, music, and cinema might appear to be separate fields, but were closely linked to human behavior and emotions.
Supreme Court judge Justice V Mohan was the chief guest, while Higher Education Minister R Bindu was present.
