Pro-Kannada outfit questions 'Thug Life' screening
The Supreme Court has given the green light for Kamal Haasan's film "Thug Life" to be screened in Karnataka, even as local group Karnataka Rakshna Vedike (KRV) calls for a boycott.
The controversy started after Haasan reportedly said Kannada came from Tamil, which upset many Kannadigas.
KRV's president urged people to skip the movie but also asked everyone to respect the court's decision.
'Expect respect for their own...'
Film industry leaders in Karnataka say their issue is with Haasan's remarks—not the film itself.
M Narasimhalu from the state's Film Chamber of Commerce explained that while people in Karnataka enjoy films from other languages, they expect respect for their own.
N M Suresh of the Film Federation of India added that Haasan not apologizing could impact how well "Thug Life" does at the box office locally.
