Why RGV thinks he's not 'capable' of working with SRK
What's the story
Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma recently opened up about his views on Shah Rukh Khan's films and their potential collaboration. In an interview with The Hans India, he said, "Shah Rukh Khan's romantic films aren't my type of films. So, I'd be the wrong person to comment on [him]." He added, "I'm not capable of working in a film with Shah Rukh Khan because of what his fans expect from him. That's not the kind of cinema I'm qualified to do."
Actor preference
Varma's preference for Amitabh Bachchan over Khan
Varma also shared his thoughts on Amitabh Bachchan, who has starred in several of his films. He said, "Amitabh Bachchan actually has a very immobile face." "But the way he conveys through his eyes and voice modulation, without moving, is an extraordinary thing because that gives him an inherent dignity and an inbuilt poise and classiness." "To my knowledge, there's no other actor who can do that...in India at least," he added.
Director-actor partnership
Varma's extensive collaboration with Bachchan
Varma has worked extensively with Bachchan, their most memorable collaboration being the three-part political franchise Sarkar. Apart from that, Bachchan has headlined Varma's films like Nishabd (2007), Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag (2007), Rann (2010), and Department (2012). He has also worked with Bachchan's son Abhishek Bachchan in Naach (2004), Sarkar (2005), and Sarkar Raj (2008).
Casting decision
Varma's past consideration of Khan for 'Company'
Interestingly, Varma had once considered casting Khan in his 2002 crime thriller Company. However, he changed his mind after meeting the actor. "My first instinct actually was to cast Shah Rukh. I went and narrated the story to him. Shah Rukh was interested too," he revealed earlier. But he felt Khan's "energetic body language" would go against the character of Malik, who is very subtle and cold-blooded. Ajay Devgn eventually played the role.
