10-year-old girl gangraped, strangled to death in Assam

In a horrific incident, a 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered in Barpeta district of Assam. The crime occurred on Monday in the Baghbar area when the child was returning home from school. According to Barpeta additional superintendent of police (ASP) Sameeran Baishya, the girl had left school early as she was unwell and was returning home alone when she was attacked.

When she didn't return home, family alerted police
The girl was allegedly taken into a jute field by the accused, where she was gang-raped and strangled. "While she was on the way, the accused took her into a jute field and gangraped her. They then strangled her there and abandoned the body in the same field," Baishya said. When she didn't return home by evening, her family alerted police, who launched a search operation.

Police recover girl's body from field
The police team later recovered the girl's body from the field during a night search operation. ASP Baishya confirmed that three boys have been detained in connection with this crime after an initial investigation. "The three boys have been detained after initial investigation," he said, adding that police are now questioning them as part of their ongoing probe. "More information will be shared later," he added, indicating that the inquiry is still in progress.
