195 Pakistani migrants get Indian citizenship in Gujarat

India

On Thursday, 195 people who migrated from Pakistan finally received their Indian citizenship certificates at a ceremony in Ahmedabad.
Gujarat's Deputy Chief Minister Harshabhai Sanghvi led the event, with 122 people getting their papers under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), and the rest through regular applications.

Why does it matter?

For many of these new citizens—mostly Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Jains—the CAA has been a lifeline after years of uncertainty as refugees.
Dr. Maheshkumar Purohit shared how grateful he feels to now have legal rights and protection as an Indian citizen.
Officials say this move helps vulnerable communities feel safer and more included in Indian society, giving them real access to rights and opportunities they've waited for.
