3 naxals killed in encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh
What's the story
Three Maoists were killed in an encounter with District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawans in the Gollapalli forest of Sukma district, Chhattisgarh, on Thursday. The operation was launched after receiving specific intelligence inputs about a large group of Naxalites in the Golapalli area. As security personnel reached the site on Thursday morning, Maoists allegedly opened fire, leading to a fierce gun battle.
Tactical response
DRG jawans retaliate, maintain positions in dense forest
After the initial attack from the Maoists, DRG jawans retaliated and firing has been continuing from both sides since morning, per reports. Security forces are maintaining their positions and responding cautiously due to the dense forest terrain. There is a strong possibility that those Naxalites killed in this encounter belong to the Area Committee Member (ACM) cadre, who have a ₹5 lakh bounty on them.
Previous operations
Recent encounters in Sukma district
Earlier on December 3, security forces killed 12 Naxalites in an encounter on the Dantewada-Bijapur border. Among those killed was Divisional Committee Member (DVCM) Vella Modiyam, a senior Maoist leader. However, that operation also resulted in casualties on the security forces' side, with three DRG jawans martyred and two others injured.
