4 arrested after deadly Sonbhadra quarry collapse
India
Four people—including the mine manager—have been arrested after a stone quarry collapsed in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, killing seven workers on November 15.
Police say the arrests follow serious safety lapses uncovered by a special investigation team.
Unsafe practices and more arrests likely
Investigators found that staff ignored key safety rules, failed to report risky drilling, and irregularities in the use of explosives were not reported.
Workers were made to operate in unsafe conditions, which led to the collapse.
An FIR has also been filed against the mine owner and contractor, and police say more arrests could happen as they push for accountability.
