What's the story

A 31-year-old software engineer, Vinay Gupta, was allegedly beaten to death by his in-laws at his home in Delhi's Nihal Vihar on Saturday. The incident took place after a dispute between Vinay and his wife Rekha over administering medicine to their child. After the fight, Rekha left the house and returned around 10 minutes later with her family members, who then assaulted Vinay.

CCTV footage shows arrival of Rekha and her sister-in-law

CCTV footage from the incident shows Rekha and her sister-in-law arriving at the house, while two of Rekha's brothers, her father and another man can allegedly be seen in a car outside the house before the assault.

Vinay's mother had gone to arrange water and snacks for the visitors when the alleged assault began, according to the family. Vinay had also allegedly brought water for his in-laws before they attacked him.

Claims

Victim's family allege this was a preplanned attack

According to the victim's family, the perpetrators continuously assaulted Vinay, strangled him, and hit him on the chest with their hands and feet. His parents attempted to intervene and save him, but the violence continued.

They allege this was a preplanned attack, as Rekha had switched off all CCTV cameras before bringing in her relatives.

After the assault, a neighbor carried him on his shoulder and took him to the hospital, where he was declared dead.
